Oromia PP leader warns against irredentism in Ethiopia
Finfinne (Yeroo) Oromia’s ruling Prosperity Party (PP) leader Taye Dandaa warned against individuals who seek to annex land “by force” in Ethiopia, in apparent reference to some vocal Amhara nationalist claims on the Walkait and other territories of Tigray.
“We might have administrative issues but we have no inheritance problem because all of Ethiopia belongs to all Ethiopians,” Taye said. Dissidents should use peaceful and proper channels to submit their complaints regarding border and administrative disputes, he added. “We must follow the rules and address border issues thru the Identity and Boundary Commission”
However he acknowledged there might have been “Errors in demarcation” due to the undemocratic rule of the previous government. Yet he claimed there are also rogue groups who believe it is “their turn” to dominate because they “inherited the greedy character of the junta we just defeated.”
During the annual holiday celebrating the Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Day, Oromia President Shimeles Abdisa and Somali President Mustafa Omer were among several high level Ethiopian officials who reaffirmed their commitment to the multinational federation and the peaceful co-existence of all ethnic groups in Ethiopia.
